Comment: Akatsuki no Yona 129 — Surprise Attack

MY NEW HUSBANDO IS THE BEST.
[WARNING!] Spoilers for Akatsuki no Yona 129 (duh!)

Quick Summary

Voldo, Yona and Hak go to Princess Tao's room, leaving the intruders outside to Jae-ha, Kija and Shin-ah. There they meet Mizali, an acquaintance of Voldo and Argila who works for Kouren. Mizali is about to kill a shivering Tao, but Argila appears from under the cover and reveals that Tao is no longer there.
Argila, Voldo and Mizali are all part of the "Five Stars", a title granted only to the strongest within Xing. Argila beats Mizali, but Mizali sets the mansion on fire. Argila laves in search of Tao, leaving Hak and Voldo to deal with the attacking enemies.
Tao is now surrounded by flames, but Zeno comes to help her. The mansion begins to collapse, and just as a pillar is about to fall on Tao, Zeno saves her by holding it up. As his body burns his skin turns to dragon skin, but he notes that because Hiryuu palace is so far away the regeneration process is slow. He tells Tao to leave whilst she can. Argila arrives at the scene, and finds Tao crying as Zeno burns.

Argila, Voldo, Mizali... I just don't know how to go about romanising names in AkaYona these days man.

Kusanagi is very slowly adding layers of complexity to Xing's political and military situation, and I'm loving the hell out of it. The introduction of the Five Starts, which very vaguely reminded me of the Five Generals of Kouka, has me very intrigued. If Argila and Voldo serve under Tao, an Mizali serves under Kouren, then who are the other Stars Voldo mentioned? Why does he not place them under any particular faction? Does this mean they aren't loyal to anyone in particular?
Also, can we talk about how much I love Argila and how happy I am that he's getting this much screen time?? Did you see him stare in awe at Hak??? He even called him kitty sweet lord I love this man so much asdfghjkl.
The only detail that bothered me about this chapter was Zeno's sudden spotlight. I'm assuming Kusanagi wants to strike while the iron's still hot now that the firs OAD has been released, but Zeno's sudden display of his monstrous power felt rather forced... and I'm usually the first to welcome Zeno badass moments onto stage. Either way, he saved the day and it's becoming clear that neither Voldo, Argila or Tao really understood how trully powerful the "charming monsters of Kouka" really were, judging by how many tiems their jaws dropped in this chapter. I can't help but wonder if they'll change their attitude towards them now that they really have displayed their monster powers.

Anyway my pretties, my cousin and his girlfriend are currently here, in Tokyo, and I'm supposed to be showing them around, so I have to cut my comment post short. We went to Tokyo Disneyland yesterday, and we're going to Disney Sea tomorrow >:D
AkaYona's next chapter will be out on the 5th of October, so it'll be on break for isue 20 of the Hana to Yume! See you all then!

PS: I thought the Zeno OAD was really well adapted. Kusanagi had mentioned the content would be very crammed in, but I thought the pacing was just perfect. I can't wait to see the next one!

  4. I'm willing to bet Kusanagi just wanted to check "burning alive" off her Zeno is Suffering list...and I was kind of hoping you'd write a full review of the Zeno OAD! I also thought the pacing was perfect!

  7. Thank you. ^.^ I'm not sure how I feel about Zeno coming to the rescue again. We've seen it before in previous arcs, so it's not something that's totally exciting for me. But I suppose it still is nice to see Zeno's powers. He always looks so cool when he uses his powers. On the other hand, I really enjoyed the Zeno OAD.

  8. I really like the parallels between the two kingdoms. I've been thinking that maybe Xing will be used to illustrate what may have gone down with King II and his brother. I was really happy with the OAD and I think the way it was done, if a second season is released, should be easily integrated with the new season.

  9. Thank you for the translation.
I have this question that has been bugging me for a while.
Zeno's regenerative power increase as long he is near hiryu's castle.
But what happen when he is very far from the castle to the point there is no hiryu's protection at all?

  11. Mama Yoon is going to get really mad at Zeno for losing his clothes again haha
I'm thinking.. what's going to happen with Zeno's hair. Since it's dead cells, it probably won't regenerate... will he get bald this time? =P
